From the 1^st April, 2022 changes to BSL (Biomass Suppliers List) are coming into effect. The BSL scheme in GB is a sustainability measure of fuel that now also requires fuel to be quality certified.

What is BSL?

Biomass Suppliers List was created to support Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI). RHI boosts fossil fuel users to change to a renewable source of energy, such as biomass wood pellets with a result of getting offered a financial payment.

Fuel types registered on the BSL include Wood Pellets, Wood Chip, and Wood Briquettes. For a specific wood fuel to be on the BSL, it must be at least 60% less carbon-intensive than its EU fossil fuel correspondent and meets the UK Timber Standard for Heat and Electricity’s meaning of legal and sustainable wood fuel.

What changes are coming into effect from 1^st April 2022?
From Friday 1^st April 2022, all wood fuel must comply with a quality standard to be recognised as BSL.

For wood Chip and other wood fuels to meet fuel quality standards suppliers must be certified by the Woodsure Certification Scheme or an equivalent certification scheme.

Wood pellets must meet the ENplus A1 standard or an equivalent standard. Our customers can see our EnplusA1 license numbers on our invoices (UK 002 for a producer and UK 307 for a trader) or by checking our website.
